Elementary Astronomy Laboratory
Physics 108

The Elementary Astronomy Lab (Physics 108) meets in Natural Science Building Rooms 309-312. Lab classes begin the second week of the semester during the regular term, or as announced during the summer term. Please have your own copy of the lab manual for the first session.

All work done for the lab must be given to the assistant in the lab during the lab class. Late work will not be accepted. Students who miss their regular section should arrange with their lab assistant to make up the work in another section. Grading depends on the total body of work and regular attendance is required.

This astronomy lab provides hands-on experience with astronomy and with the basic physics on which it is founded. It is recommended for the General Education Physical Science lab requirement, and should be taken concurrently or after having taken Elementary Astronomy 107 or equivalent.

All sections will visit the planetarium during the first few weeks of the semester. Later in the term, daytime sections will observe the Sun with a solar telescope that feeds a live image into the classroom, and nighttime sections will use a telescope on the roof of the Natural Science Building to see the Moon and bright planets. Some sections also may use remotely operated telescopes at our observatories in Australia and in Oldham County.
