  • Master of Science degree in Physics

  • 5 year Accelerated BS/MS degree in Physics

  • Cooperative Doctoral Program with the University of Kentucky

    The Department participates in a cooperative doctoral program with the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky, leading to a Ph.D. in Physics conferred by the University of Kentucky. For more information contact Dr. Chris Davis at UofL or Dr. Tom Troland at UK.

  • Chemical Physics

    Through an arrangement with the Chemistry Department, students in certain research areas may pursue the Ph.D. in Chemistry with a specialization in Chemical Physics. For more information, contact Dr. George Pack in Chemistry.
    

  • Applied Mathematics

    It is possible for students to pursue the PhD in certain areas of Mathematical Physics via the Applied and Industrial Mathematics PhD program offered by the University of Louisville Mathematics Department. For more information, contact Dr. Thomas Riedel in Mathematics.

• How to apply ?

  • All applicants will be considered for a Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA). GTA positions cover full tuition, basic health care coverage and pay a ten month stipend. Teaching duties of a GTA may include supervision of undergraduate physics laboratories and/or grading up to a total of about 20 hours per week.
  
  
  • A complete application must include the following,
    1. Application form
    2. Two letters of recommendation
    3. Official copy of undergraduate and graduate transcripts
    4. Official GRE (general section) scores. There is no specific minimum score required for entry, but your score may be used to determine whether you are offered a place. The Physics GRE is not required.
  
  
  • International Students must also provide
    1. Official ToEFL scores (for applicants for whom english is a second language). Required scores are either 213 (computer based test), 80 (internet based test) or 550 (paper based test).
    2. Financial declaration statement.
  
  
  • Specific details of the application requirements may be found at the Graduate School on-line application site . Applications are accepted either on-line (preferred) or by completion of a hard-copy application form. Note that there is a $50 (US funds only) non- refundable application fee whichever method you choose.

    • On-line application:

      Full instructions are found at the Graduate School on-line application site . The application fee may be paid with VISA or Mastercard.

    • Hard-copy application:

      Application forms and directions are available at the on-line application site . If you decide to follow this route you should send the complete application directly to the address below (not the Graduate School).

  • Graduate admissions material can also be sent directly to your home address. Please complete the form "Request a Graduate School Application".
  
  
  • There are no specific deadlines for applications. Initial offers for Fall entry are made in early March. Therefore, in order to ensure consideration for Fall entry your complete application should be received by March 1. Applications received after this date will be considered for any remaining places. Spring entry positions are rare; to be considered for such a position we should have your application on file before mid October.
