Welcome to Jim's Home Page

I have just moved to the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Louisville, where I am a currently an Assistant Professor. My research interests include the study of abundances, depletion patterns, and properties of clouds in the interstellar medium of galaxies at all redshifts. I am also interested in the comparison of chemical evolution models to the observed abundances in the interstellar medium of the Galaxy and Magellanic Clouds, QSO absorption line systems, and stars in the Galaxy and Magellanic Clouds.

Before moving to the University of Louisville, I was a Research Assistant Professor at Northwestern University in the Department of Physics and Astronomy for six years, after first starting as a post-doctoral research associate with Professor David Meyer. Before this I worked at Goddard Space Flight Center for more than 2 years, first as a National Research Council Resident Research Associate, and then as an employee of Hughes STX Corporation. My days as a graduate student were spent in The University of Chicago's Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics, where I worked closely with Professors Lewis Hobbs, James Truran, and Donald York (who was my thesis advisor) among others; I also worked part-time as a system administrator for the departmental computing facilities.

My current course web page for Physics 107 - Elementary Astronomy (Section 1, Spring 2008) is available.

Right now the following bits are all the other things that I have on the web (which I need to move to the UofL), although I intend on adding to this:

You might also be interested in checking out my Brother-in-Law Ben's Geology/Paleontology Pages, which include pages full of information and links for each of the classes he has taught this year.
