UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE ACADEMIC HALL OF FAME
                         FULBRIGHT SCHOLARS FROM U. LOUISVILLE

Fulbright Scholarships for Americans are for post-graduate or faculty research, service/research in public health or
teaching English abroad.  Undergraduates, graduate students and faculty can apply for them.
They were established in 1947, and there were 123,000 Americans who
received Fulbright Scholarships from 1947-2014.   Applicants must be endorsed by their home institution.
Their competitiveness can vary significantly by country, year and type of award.
For example, for student research fellowships in 2015-16 there were 36/1031 successful
applications for the United Kingdom, while for China there were 60/98 funded proposals.  Worldwide,
827 of 4531 (18.3%) of research fellowships were funded.
For English teaching in 2015-16, there were 5/70 winners to go to Italy, whereas in Malaysia 90/186
applicants received awards.  Worldwide, 1059 of 4407 teaching fellowships (24.0%) were awarded.
Statistics are available here.  Several Fulbright Scholar data bases are available, including the Univ. of Arkansas' library collection.
Awards are made in the spring.  See  here to find Fulbright student grantees,
and here for more information about Fulbright Fellowships.
There are also Fulbright awards for foreign nationals to study in the US.
